Nicole Jacobs, Domestic Abuse Commissioner, says: “The friends and family of Joanna Simpson have been campaigning for years for this decision.
“Government must ensure justice for all victims, implementing the recommendations of the Wade Review into Domestic Homicide Sentencing. I have also called for all perpetrators that have been found guilty of manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility to undergo a mental health review.
“There is a long way to go to ensure future deaths can be prevented and perpetrators held accountable. My office is developing a National Domestic Homicide and Suicide Oversight Mechanism, to draw and implement learning from reviews which take place following a domestic homicide.”
