On the 19th October the Commissioner visited Women’s Trust and spoke about what more can be done to better meet the needs of survivors of domestic abuse and why specialist counselling and therapeutic services are crucial to the recovery of survivors.
Woman’s Trust is the largest provider of specialist mental health counselling for survivors of domestic abuse in London. Since starting in 1996 we have helped over 18,000 women, who have experienced domestic abuse, rebuild their mental health through our trauma-informed specialist counselling.
The Commissioner said, “In 2021 I surveyed more than 4,000 victims and survivors, and what they most wanted support for was their mental health. Yet the vast majority were unable to access counselling and mental health support.
“We need to see long-term investment in specialist counselling support for victims and survivors of domestic abuse, like that provided by the Woman’s Trust, which brings a trauma-informed approach to meet the mental health needs of victims and survivors.
“I welcome the work of Woman’s Trust, both to provide vital free counselling support to survivors, and in shining a light on the need for change today.”
