On the 29th November the Commissioner spoke at the Leading a Coordinated Community Response to Domestic Abuse event that was hosted by Standing Together Against Domestic Abuse.
The Commissioner said, “As we all know, domestic abuse is a critical public health issue that affects at least 2.1 million adults every year.
“As part of the Coordinated Community Response to domestic abuse – pioneered by Standing Together – health services provide one of the earliest and most trusted places for victims and survivors to access support.
“It is therefore crucial that health professionals have a strong understanding of domestic abuse in order to identify abuse earlier and support victims and survivors to access specialist support.
“The effectiveness of this intervention is vital – not only does it have a critical impact on the quality of support received by the survivor, but it also has tangible impacts on the wider healthcare system too.”
